Mark Houston has over 30 years of experience in finance, commercial banking, investment banking, restructuring/turnaround management, and private equity with large, middle-market, public, and privately held organizations. Previously, he worked at BDO as Managing Director in the Turnaround & Restructuring Practice, where he was head of lender advisory services. He also led the financial institutions & specialty finance industry group across all of BDO USA. Prior to that, he served as Chief Financial Officer for two private equity-backed portfolio companies. Earlier in his career, Houston worked at FTI Consulting and spent 10 years in investment banking and 4 years in commercial banking, working in Montreal, London, and Hong Kong before New York.
Houston works closely with stakeholders regarding lender negotiations, debt restructuring, capital raising and refinancings, mergers & acquisitions, divestments, budgets, and strategic planning. His industry experience includes work in automotive manufacturing, automotive dealerships/service centers, food & beverage manufacturing, healthcare, hospitality, media, restaurants, specialty finance, and technology.
Specifically, he has led teams in the development and review of business plans and financial projections, cash flow forecasts, the evaluation and negotiation of various transactions, including preparation of the company or division to be sold or acquired, as well as the integration post-transaction.
Houston has advised on corporate acquisitions and sales of entities with values ranging from $10 million to multiple billions. He has negotiated cash-flow-based and asset-based lines of credit, credit agreements/amendments, managed complex debt recapitalization, and secured debtor-in-possession facilities in addition to real estate, equipment, and other working capital financing.
Houston has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from McGill University in Montreal, Quebec, and a Master of Finance degree from London Business School in London, England. He is also an active member of the Turnaround Management Association and SFNet in New York City.
